Like, SoCal Vol. 1 / no. 4: High (Fructose) Drag: House of Avalon hosts first Miss Sugartank competition

The time has come to crown the Sugary Supreme! The Pixy Stick Princess? The Glucose Glamazon? The Dextrose Diva? This month’s dip into the Sugartank (the monthly party hosted by The House of Avalon) is extra sweet with 14 performers competing for a $1000 grand prize and the title of Miss Sugartank. Though, I still think Insulin Icon is a better title.

MCd by Grant Vanderbilt and judged by Symone, Gigi Goode, Rylie, and guest performer Xunami Muse, the competition is open to all forms of drag. Though Avalon and DJ Mateo Segade anticipated gathering sign-ups the night of the event, pre-registration was so packed they closed the competition just days after announcing it.

Starting around 11pm DQT (Drag Queen Time), competitors will walk the Sugartank runway. The top five will then move on to a solo lipsync round, competing for a spot in the top two. The remaining two competitors will then lipsync to Ariana Grande’s “Yes, And” followed by a final lipsync for the crown. Competitors will progress and ultimately snatch the title of Miss Sugartank based on audience reactions and judges’ scores.

The only rules — no throwing things, no breaking things, no inappropriate touching of things — keep it cute. With only a few spots open to night-of additions, here are the performers selected to compete in Miss Sugartank.
